Our Elders


Charles Shannon


Charles is a native of Florida but has lived in Norfolk since 2014 when he and his wife moved to the city to raise a family and start Mission Church. They have five small children who bring joy and laughter to their household. Charles serves as the Lead Pastor focusing on preaching, vision, equipping, and leadership development. His desire is for the Word of God to impact the people of God for the glory of God. He enjoys running, reading, NFL and NBA games, and coaching youth sports.

Jon Coats


Jon is married to Marla, and they have two boys, Isaiah and Asher. He serves as the Pastor for Worship and Liturgy. In this role, Jon desires to invite people of all nations, tribes, and languages into worshiping King Jesus. In his spare time, Jon enjoys writing, recording, and producing music with other musicians in the 757 area. He also enjoys spending time outside with his family, especially when that includes walking a few holes at a golf course.

Daniel Amotsuka


Daniel was born and raised in Nigeria, but currently calls Norfolk home where he lives with his beautiful wife, Paula. He serves as the Pastor for Community Life and oversees the communal rhythms of our church and has a pivotal role in shaping Mission Church’s culture. Daniel is passionate about cultivating expressions of God’s kingdom in the urban context and equipping the body of Christ to be light bearers in hard places. Daniel loves to cook, reads widely, and is the plug for all things Afrobeats!

Christine Moore

Christy counts herself blessed to be married to Andy and loves living within driving distance to an ocean. Christy serves on the stewardship team at Mission Church; her efforts are focused on helping cultivate a financially healthy church that can generously extend the love of Christ to neighbors in tangible and transformative ways. Additionally, she enjoys supporting her brothers and sisters in their efforts to develop a first fruits approach to both giving and ministry. She loves traveling with Andy, taking her dog Sadie for walks, and enjoying delicious meals with friends.

Kelly Ingvalson

Kelly is married to Grant and together they have a son, Tyler. Kelly is a Deacon of Care for Mission Church, helping to identify and meet the needs of members in our church body. She loves hospitality and has a passion and desire for every person in our church, whether members or not, to feel welcome, seen, heard and known. She loves being outside, gardening, and being with her family at the beach.

Marla Coats

Marla is married to Jon, and they have two wonderful, energetic boys, Isaiah and Asher. She provides administrative support for elders, staff, and deacons by assisting with calendar planning, communication, care, and logistic needs. Her desire is to come alongside and support leadership, freeing up our church leaders to be effective in the mission of making disciples who enjoy the gospel in community. In her free time, Marla enjoys reading, being outside, and attempting to keep plants alive.

Janet Brown

Janet left her N. Ireland home to attend Bible college for one year in upstate New York thirty years ago! She married Antoine in 1999, and they have two children in college and two homeschooled. As children’s ministry co-director, Janet helps oversee Mission Kids 0-11-year-olds to ensure they are safe, delighted in, and taught the word of God. She wants others to find courage in Christ, whether their current circumstances are calm or chaotic, and desires to bring the Bible to life for any age through her teaching and writing. She loves Indian food and chai tea, a crackling fire, biographies, and any wide open spaces to walk her sweet cock-a-poo, Appa.

Jackie Shannon

Jackie is married to Charles and has 5 rambunctious children in whom she finds great joy in loving. Jackie is the Co-Director of Mission Kids and is responsible for the oversight and organization of our kids’ ministry. Her passion can be summed up in watching children grow. She enjoys coming alongside parents in the discipleship of their families and is thrilled to see the joy on the faces of children when they have “Aha!” moments. She loves gardening and is passionate about calling order to the chaos around her.

Paula Amotsuka

Paula is an artist, homegrown in Mobile, AL and raised in the Hampton roads area. Paula is married to her beloved, Daniel. In her role as a Worship and Liturgy Mentor, Paula is responsible for shepherding and creating a space for worship team members to carry out the global expression of Worship through music and words. Her desire is to see God establish a sacred, renewing space that captures the diversity of the Mission Church community and our region. She enjoys the experience of brewing coffee on a slow and quiet morning.

Michael Williams

Michael is a native of Hampton Roads and serves as the Welcome Team Leader, where his role is to make every person feel welcome, important, and connected. His heart is to love and serve those in the local church and community. He loves sports, theology, and hip-hop.

Andramada Sanchez

Andramada comes from a Mexican-Texas family brought to the Hampton Roads by her now retired Naval Father. Andramada leads Hospitality by embracing those of the community and the Mission Family with her amazing team. She loves to empower and equip her team to show the love of Jesus in word, presence and deed. You can catch her near any body of water with a cup of coffee in her hand ready to share kindness!
