Our Story
In the summer of 2014, the Shannon family moved from Chesapeake to Norfolk, VA with the hope of seeing a vibrant gospel church come to life in the density and diversity of the city. After a season of preparation at a local seminary and a yearlong church planting residency at Aletheia Church Norfolk, Charles was commissioned as a Church Planting Pastor. Early in 2016 a group of 10 individuals set out to plant Mission Church together. In September 2017, Mission Church held its first public worship gathering.
Since then, we have grown into a vibrant community that gathers for worship in Norfolk’s urban center on North Colley, and scatters for witness throughout our city, and the Hampton Roads region. We are committed to being a community of Jesus followers that is grounded in sound biblical teaching, reflects the beautiful diversity of our city, and embodies a robust faith that transforms all of life.
Our story is still being written, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Whether you have deep roots in Norfolk, or find yourself here for a brief stint, our community is eager to meet you where you are, and journey alongside you towards a life shaped by the truth, beauty and goodness of Jesus.
Our Partnerships
Mission Church enjoys rich partnership with the churches of the Harbor Network and Acts29. We partner closely with them in planting and building local churches to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.
